The Meaning of Evergreen
Be careful never to forget what you yourself have seen. Do not let these memories escape from your mind as long as you live! And be sure to pass them on to your children and grandchildren. Deuteronomy 4:9, NLT
Have you noticed evergreen branches and garlands decorating homes, stores, and churches during Christmas? People drape them over doorways, wrap them around stair railings, and hang them from mantels. The fresh pine smell fills the air and makes everything feel festive!
But why do we use evergreen branches at Christmas? Here’s the cool part: Unlike other trees that lose their leaves in winter and look dead, evergreen trees stay green ALL YEAR LONG! Even in the coldest, darkest winter, they keep their beautiful green needles. They never die!
This reminds us of something super important about Jesus! When Jesus was born in Bethlehem, He came to give us EVERLASTING life—life that never ends, just like those evergreen branches that stay alive all year! The Bible is full of this message!
John 3:16 says that whoever believes in Jesus “should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live” (John 11:25).
And in John 10:28, Jesus promises, “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish.”
See the pattern? Just like evergreen branches stay alive and green through every season, when we believe in Jesus, we have life that never, ever ends! Physical death isn’t the end for Christians—it’s just the beginning of forever with Jesus in heaven!
So when you see pine branches and garlands decorating for Christmas, let them remind you that Jesus came to give you EVERGREEN life—life that stays fresh and alive forever and ever!
Take Action: Go on an evergreen hunt! Look for evergreen branches, garlands, or wreaths in your house, at church, or around your neighborhood this week. Every time you spot one, say a quick prayer: “Thank You, Jesus, for giving me life that lasts forever!” You could even collect a small pine branch or pinecone and keep it in your room as a reminder. If it’s safe, smell the pine scent and let it remind you that Jesus’ gift of eternal life is fresh and new every day—it never gets old!

PARTNER WITH us

As a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, the importance of family has always been a core value in my life. I have been a pastor for decades, watching families grow and generation after generation come up in faith. That is why Bible Strong Kids is so important to me. What better legacy to leave for our children and grandchildren than to raise them up in faith, strengthening them for the journey ahead all the way into adulthood?
I hope you will join us in this endeavor to create the next generation of Bible Strong Kids—children who know their worth in God’s eyes and are equipped to shine His light in an increasingly dark world.
