Slow to Get Mad, Quick to Bless!
So Sarai said to Abram, “See now, the Lord has restrained me from bearing children. Please, go in to my maid; perhaps I shall obtain children by her.” Genesis 16:2
Have you ever gotten in trouble and thought, Oh no, Mom/Dad is going to be SO mad at me? Sometimes when we mess up, we think people (and maybe even God) will stay angry at us forever. But that’s not how God works!
Psalm 103:8-9 says, “The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever” (ESV). “Chide” means “to scold or get mad at someone.” These verses say God is SLOW to get angry with us but QUICK to bless us and show us love!
Sarah made a pretty big mistake. God had promised her and Abraham a baby, but she got tired of waiting. So she came up with her own plan that ended up causing lots of problems. But you know what? God forgave Sarah! He still used her to be the mother of Isaac, the son He had promised. God didn’t give up on Sarah just because she messed up!
That’s how God treats us too. When we make mistakes (and everyone does!), God is patient with us. He doesn’t yell at us or reject us. Instead, He’s quick to forgive us when we say we’re sorry. He’s quick to help us do better next time. He’s quick to show us His love!
Take Action: Is there someone in your life right now who hurt your feelings or made you mad? Here’s your challenge: Follow God’s example! Be “slow to get mad, quick to bless.” That means don’t stay angry for a long time, but be quick to forgive and show kindness. It’s hard sometimes, but remember—this is exactly how God treats you every single day. When you mess up, He’s patient. When you say sorry, He’s quick to forgive. Can you do the same for others?

PARTNER WITH us

As a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, the importance of family has always been a core value in my life. I have been a pastor for decades, watching families grow and generation after generation come up in faith. That is why Bible Strong Kids is so important to me. What better legacy to leave for our children and grandchildren than to raise them up in faith, strengthening them for the journey ahead all the way into adulthood?
I hope you will join us in this endeavor to create the next generation of Bible Strong Kids—children who know their worth in God’s eyes and are equipped to shine His light in an increasingly dark world.
